In the bleak winter of 2020, a small group of world-class artists gathered in upstate New York to make the impossible possible: to create and perform the first new full-length ballet in the United States during the pandemic.

Set inside the stately Wethersfield Estate, Troy Schumacher’s immersive Nutcracker invited audiences to move room-to-room within the story, blurring the lines between art and life. The result became a cultural touchstone hailed by The New York Times as “a fantasy you can enter” and featured in The Wall Street Journal and Vogue for its audacious blend of intimacy and imagination.

Anne Sundberg’s documentary goes beyond behind-the-scenes — exploring resilience, reinvention, and the enduring power of live performance in an age of distance.
